"Hey, I’m Mark, though most people know me online as Goodgis. I started Dewdrop Dynasty in early 2020 with help from my brother Crepe and my best friend Bonzo on early concept art, ideas, and development support.
The project was originally intended to be a small first commercial release for my indie studio Firith, planned to take just one month of development. However, it quickly became clear the game needed far more time to become something substantial.
While I led the majority of development, Bonzo contributed early sketches, some sprite work, music, and later additional support toward the end of development. Crepe contributed additional music, helped with implementation and level setup, and provided playtesting and feedback.
Development continued over the following years alongside a YouTube devlog series. After three years, we launched a successful Kickstarter, which allowed us to bring on composer Peter Reid Jones and promotional artist Giacomo Autili.
Over the following years, I continued development while balancing a full-time job, growing my YouTube channel, and navigating major life changes, including starting a family with my wife and welcoming two children.
After 6 long years, Dewdrop Dynasty has evolved into a lighthearted Metroidvania with the charm and humor of Paper Mario, the tight action of Hollow Knight, and a distinctive retro-inspired pixel art style."
